Commander Denise Jacqueline McCallaCreary is the Immediate Past President & Chief Executive Officer of the Jamaican American Association of Northern California. She is a retired 27 years United States Navy veteran who is living her best life as a Domestic Engineer, Independent Sales Consultant, volunteering and pursuing an acting career in film and television.

She is a native of Kingston, Jamaica where she attended Alvernia Primary School aka Nonspend and Merl Grove High School from 1965-1969. She migrated to Evanston, Illinois with her parents where she graduated from Evanston Township High School and was awarded the Evanston Township High School Class of 1972 Post Legion award for citizenship. She then went on to attend Chicago State University transferring to and graduating from Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and Spanish.

She enlisted in the Naval Reserve in October 1973 and served as an Aviation Storekeeper at Naval Air Station, Glenview, Illinois. She entered Temporary Active Duty in December 1978 to serve on the “Navy Angels” team with the Navy Recruiting District, Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she was awarded the Recruiting Gold Wreath for excellence in support of Recruiting. She was commissioned a Naval Officer in 1979. Her naval career spans a variety of assignments in Bermuda, Washington, D.C., Monterey, California, Oakland, California, Moffett Field, California, Tampa Florida culminating in her retirement in 2000. She holds a Master of Science Degree from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California & a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island.

Her military awards and decorations include her Command Pin, Joint Service Meritorious medal; Joint Service Achievement medal; Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal with gold star in lieu of second award; Navy Meritorious Service medal; Navy Reserve Meritorious Service medal; Joint Meritorious Unit Award; National Defense Medal with bronze star in lieu of second award; Humanitarian Service medal; and the Overseas Service Ribbon.

She is a life member of the National Naval Officers Association and their Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) Volunteer Coordinator; Life member of the Military Officers Association; Past Retiree Representative to the National Naval Officers Association Executive Board; Former Advisor, Monterey Chapter National Naval Officers Association and a founding member of the Merl Grove High School Jamaica, Northeast American Past Students Chapter. She is a former Ms. Jamaica of Chicago.

Commander McCallaCreary is married to Trevor Anthony Creary formerly of Kingston, Jamaica, a Calabar High School alumni and a 1974 Jamaica Independence Post Graduate Scholar. They have three children: Karlene Elizabeth, Christopher Anthony and Matthew Alexander. They reside in San Jose, California.
